Winning the race against Cybersecurity attacks is a job to be done consistently.  The 2021 Digital Quality of Life Index conducted by Sharktank, ranked South Africa at 95 out of 110 countries for cybersecurity. Nigeria, Kenya, Mauritius Zambia, Algeria, Ghana and Tunisia are ahead of South Africa for electronic security. This does not bode well for a country that is supposed to be the leader on the African continent.

The current landscape

A string of cybersecurity attacks in the past year have shown the weak links and gaps in the country’s commitment to cybersecurity strength. The Department of Justice and its subsidiary the Information Regulator were not spared. They are the latest cybercrime victims coming out of the September attack which reportedly resulted in a R33 million ransomware demand by attackers. The Department has dismissed these claims.

- Trojans 300x205 - The Fortitude to Win – How your cybersecurity can gain super strengthKaspersky has been watching the South African landscape and reported the top three most prevalent malware behaviours seen in South Africa in the last six months are:

  • Trojans;
  • Trojan-Proxy; and
  • Trojan-Downloaders.

A Trojan is a type of malware. Disguised as legitimate software, attackers use this software to gain access to user systems, gain confidential information and hold the system hostage.

Sophos.com found that the average ransomware attack in South Africa during 2021 could cost R6.4 million to remediate. It doesn’t pay to pay.

Have the Fortitude to do something about it

And it means being alert and prepared for the inevitable. Even your smart fridge at the office needs protection! You need Fortitude. Not just the type you get in your Milo drink. But the type that is an ethical 360 degree view hacker living 24/7 in your organisation’s digital networks and keeping bad actors out.

Working from the outside and the inside, Fortitude will test applications, networks, geographical locations, processes, and even people to determine resiliency to withstand a cyber-attack. The system’s intuitive AI technology moves to test how easily it all can be broken. Once broken, your organisation is given a solid list of recommendations for the fix.

The Cybercrimes Act mandates that all C-suite execs are held fully accountable for the security of their organisations, and if found to be lacking in their duties, face a hefty penalty. This is easily remedied.

You can gain the Fortitude to win! Nihka’s Fortitude goes beyond known vulnerabilities to intelligent exploit detection. Fortitude is a complete solution to test the strength of your organisation’s digital footprint and its security.
