Project Details: End User Computing. The client needed the implementation of Windows 7 and a change over from Novell for 40,000 users across the country

CHALLENGE

The client was using Novell as an operating system and required a change-over to Windows 7 (at the time). This was a resource intensive project as users across the country (40,000) had to hand in laptops at designated locations for the change-over to happen. Testing of applications originally on Novell also had to be done to confirm compatibility with Windows.

VALUE PROVIDED

This project required not only very detailed planning but consistent, clear communication to the user community. Logistically, the project excelled ensuring minimal disruption at drop off points.

An intensive communication strategy was implemented, ensuring minimal disruption to a work day and a call centre was established for the duration of the project.

OUTCOMES

  • 40,000 users were successfully migrated to Windows 7
  • Applications were tested for compatibility and deployed
  • An e-Learning solution was deployed to cut down on training time and uptake of the new operating system with the support of the call centre
